Euphoria in the UK! Andy became the first Brit in 77 years to win at the All England Club, defeating the number one player in the world, Novak Djokovic to take the Wimbledon title.
Great Britain is going to a frenzy on July 7 after the Scottish Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in the final at Wimbledon in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, and 6-4. Andy is now the first UK native to win England’s Grand Slam tournament in 77 years!
Andy Murray Wins At Wimbledon
It was a day that seemed like destiny for Andy Murray. With the entire crowd clearly behind him, Andy was aggressive to begin the match and got on a roll that Novak simply could not stop.
After Novak took a 4-1 lead in the second set, Andy roared back, winning the next six out of seven games to capture a two sets to none lead in the championship, a nearly impossible deficit for the Djoker. Andy’s dominating run was shocking — considering his past struggles against Novak — and was truly inspiring to behold.
The win at Wimbledon is Andy’s first ever at the All England Club and his second Grand Slam title overall — he won the US Open in 2012.
Novak Djokovic Falters
It was definitely a disappointing day for Novak, who was coming off of arguably the best Wimbledon semifinals match ever against Juan Martin Del Potro. That long match seemed to have a real effect on the number one player in the world, as he was just a few steps slow and had tentative body language throughout the match.
Congrats to Andy Murray though — and all of Great Britain! It’s been a long time coming, and Andy’s joy is unmistakable.
