James DiMaggio, the man who allegedly kidnapped 16-year-old Hannah Anderson and killed her family, was finally caught and killed by authorities in the Idaho wilderness on August 10. After seven days, the teenage girl was thankfully found alive. Read on.
A truly tragic episode in California has finally come to an end. James DiMaggio, who kidnapped a teenage girl, was found around 7 p.m. ET near Morehead Lake in Idaho, where he was shot and killed. The FBI tactical unit was not only able to catch DiMaggio, they also managed to save Hannah Anderson’s life in the process.
Hannah Anderson Rescued By FBI
The 16-year-old girl, who was last seen at cheerleading practice on August 3, was found alive near DiMaggio’s body, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore told CNN. “She appears well and was rescued and will be transported to a hospital in Idaho.”
About 250 law enforcement personnel had converged on the River of No Return Wilderness looking for DiMaggio and Hannah. They also managed to guard every single way out after discovering his car near the area on August 9.
The police began focusing on the area after a tip led them to DiMaggio’s house, where Hannah’s mother and brother died in a fire.
Before killing DiMaggio, police spokesperson Andrea Dearden stated that the authorities would “use every single resource possible.”
“Whatever they feel is most effective and most useful, that’s what they are going to use,” Andrea said.
It is emotional to hear the news that Hannah has been rescued and that DiMaggio has been shot — the teen must all at once be feeling so grateful to be alive, and yet torn to pieces over the deaths of her family members.
