Finally! After a long wait, the casting choices for Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the much-hyped film adaptation of ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ have been revealed — and they might not be who you expected!
After so many stars were floated as a possible options to play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey, we finally have our girl and guy – Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam! Do you like the casting choices?
Dakota Johnson Cast As Anastasia Steele
Dakota, the (very blonde) daughter of stars Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, landed the role, according to the book’s author, E.L. James. “I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson, 23, has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” she tweeted on Sept. 2. We hope she’s ready to dye her hair!
It’s safe to say Dakota is a much less established star than some of the other rumored names — her biggest acting credit to date was a starring role on Fox’s Ben and Kate. She has also had roles in The Social Network, Need for Speed, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement. She is currently filming a feature called Cymbeline, according to our sister site Deadline.
Charlie Hunnam: Meet Your Christian Grey
As for Charlie, E.L. revealed him as Christian shortly after she announced Dakota, tweeting, “The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.” The 33-year-old actor is a veteran who is best known for his lead role as Jax Teller in FX’s Sons of Anarchy. He was also the lead role in the summer 2013 action flick, Pacific Rim. Charlie has acting credits that date all the back to 1999. His chiseled features and ability to play bad boys seem to be a perfect fit for the role of Christian.
In general it might be for the best that the team behind Fifty Shades went for a lesser known stars. With so many avid fans harboring thoughts about who Anastasia and Christian are, choosing Dakota and Charlie allows them to paint their own ideas onto her and him, because they likely don’t know anything else about them. That trick wouldn’t be as possible if say, Emma Watson and Ian Somerhalder took on the roles with their history of being Hermione Granger and Damon getting in the way.
But what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are Dakota and Charlie the right choices for the roles? Let us know!
