When Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James announced the two stars of the film adaptation of her racy book, she started a debate that may rage on forever. Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam are both sexy, but are they the right kind of sexy for Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey? Dakota Johnson Will Become Anastasia Steele
E.L. first confirmed that Dakota, daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, would be portraying Anastasia in the movie. “I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” the author tweeted on Sept. 2.
Dakota, 23, is a controversial choice if only because she is such an unknown. But she does seem to have the right look for the part — that mix of innocence, naivete, and curiosity. And once she switches to a chestnut hair color, she might be even more of a ringer for Anastasia.
Charlie Hunnam: From Biker To Christian Grey
Charlie may be a different story. “The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” E.L. tweeted shortly after she announced Dakota’s casting.
The 33-year-old actor may have a harder time playing a convincing Christian Grey for fans because many know him so well as Jax Teller, the badass bearded biker on FX’s Sons of Anarchy. That being said, he does have the height — coming in at 6’1″ — and the muscles (seriously!) that are essential to the role. It’ll all come down to how he decides to play the part.
