Ryan Heber is a quiet hero. The popular high school teacher is said to have told the gunman very calmly, to put his weapon down. That was what allowed the 28 students to quickly
flee their classroom and avoid being killed. What Ryan Said To The Student
"I don't want to shoot you," the gunman told Ryan. To which he then calmly told the student to put his gun down.
What Happened At Taft Union High School
A 16-year-old burst into a classroom around 9am and shot a teen before firing off a few more rounds. The victim is said to have played football for the school and is in critical yet stable condition. A friend of the student was also hit in the shoulder but was okay.
"I hate to be crappy about it," one parent said. "But that kid was bullying him. All I ever heard about him was good things from my son. He wasn't Mr. Popularity, but he was a smart kid. It's a shame. My kid said he was like a genius. It's a shame because he could have made something of himself."
What Happens Now
The student will be charged with attempted murder and now the District Attorney must decide if he's charged as an adult. They will not release his name because he's so young.
