A ‘very attractive’ musician is coming to ‘Downton Abbey!’ Will he make sweet music with Rose?
Downton Abbey has spent its first three seasons tirelessly exploring the struggles between classes in early-20th-century England, but when the hit soap returns for its fourth season later this year, the Crawleys will learn about a different kind of struggle: relations between races. According to the UK’s Sun, a casting note went out for new-character Jack Ross, who is described as “black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma.”
“Overall he should be a very attractive man with a certain wow factor,” the note reads, adding that the actor should “ideally be able to sing brilliantly.”
According to the report, Jack — who is a musician in an exclusive nightclub — will play a key role in the show’s fourth season. When I see the word “nightclub,” I immediately think of newcomer Rose (Lily James), who was recently promoted to series regular.

Jack is hardly the only new character joining the Crawleys when Downton returns in season four. Fresh off the loss of Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) husband Matthew (Dan Stevens), a new suitor is reportedly going to sweep her off her feet — or at least, he’s going to try.
“Inevitably … she's got to, at some point, [find a] new man," executive producer Gareth Neame recently told Entertainment Weekly. “She's an eligible young widow. So we shall see.”
We shall indeed!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of all these casting rumors? Are you glad Downton is finally addressing racial issues? And do you think Mary will ever be able to get over Matthew? Drop a comment with your thoughts!
