The New ‘Warm’ Portrait
Artist Norren Denzil, 47, was inspired to paint Kate after seeing the original portrait. It took her three weeks to paint the portrait, with Kate’s green eyes shining bright. Her hair looks wavy and pretty and her smile makes her look happier than the original.
“The official portrait is technically brilliant but I don’t think it captures the true natural beauty and personality of the Duchess,” the artist told Daily Mail. “She has a great deal of warmth, which is why she is so popular and I wanted to show that in a portrait of my own. I’m pleased with the result and I’ve had a lot of good feedback, saying that my picture makes her look much more human.”
The artist hopes to show Kate and then sell the portrait, with the proceeds going to charity.
The Original Kate Middleton’s Portrait Is Critiqued
When it was first revealed, Robin Simon, art critic for the British Art Journal and Daily Mail said: “Fortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge looks nothing like this in real life. I’m really sad to say this is a rotten portrait.”
Kate, ever the polite Princess, told press: “I thought it was brilliant. It’s just amazing. Absolutely brilliant.” Prince William concurred: “It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.”
In the original portrait, Kate is wearing little makeup — just some eyeliner. She is wearing a navy long-sleeve blouse and drop earrings. Under eye circles and smile lines appear to make Kate much older than her 31 years.
