Chris goes into his 24th year looking better than ever, and things are really looking up for the R&B star. Happy Birthday Chris!
Chris Brown had a pretty great year — or at least a great second half! CB at 23 was still separated from Rihanna and at a turning point in his music career. One year later and he’s got RiRi back on his arm and he’s building up to the release of his sixth album, X. We’d say this guy’s got some serious celebrating to do! Let’s take a look at Chris’ biggest ups and downs from the past year as he turns 24.
Chris Brown Brawls With Drake
Unfortunately, drama seems to have a way of always finding Chris. It definitely found him on June 14 when Chris and rapper Drake were both out at the New York City nightclub, WIP. Drake had been linked to Rihanna and reportedly made sure Chris knew it. Sending a bottle over to Chris’ table, the rapper reportedly attached the note, “I’m f**king the love of your life, deal with it!” The disrespectful bottle caused an all-out brawl between the two posses, resulting in a destroyed nightclub, a nasty gash on Chris’ chin, and eye surgery for Tony Parker, the NBA player who got caught in the middle of the fight.
Chris Brown’s ‘Fortune’ Hits Number One
Things would get better for Chris, though. His album, Fortune, released on July 3, skyrocketed right to the top of the charts. It even hit the top spot on iTunes sales! The album was a serious success, with monster hits like “Don’t Wake Me Up,” “Till I Die,” and “Turn Up The Music.” The album definitely confirmed that Chris was his generation’s top R&B performer.
Chris Brown Breaks Up With Karrueche Tran, Gets Back With Rihanna
After months of mumbles and grumbles that Chris’ relationship with Karrueche Tran was on the rocks and clear evidence that he was back hanging out with Rihanna (he even kissed her at the MTV VMAs!), Chris finally confirmed that he and KT had split. Chris told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY, "I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives." It did take a little while for the breakup to split, but a certain someone helped Chris get over KT for good.
It was Rihanna, obviously! In what was probably the highlight of his year, the Unapologetic singer officially took him back. In November Rihanna began posting revealing pictures of Chris and herself, she even posted one of them kissing! And then in January, RiRi let the cat out of the bag for good. "I decided it was more important for me to be happy. I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake,” Rihanna told Rolling Stone. It certainly hasn’t been all love and roses since then, but Chris and Rihanna have stayed strong and together and they’ve never been more passionate about each other.
Chris Brown Premieres ‘Fine China,’ Prepares for ‘X’
On the heels of getting his girl back, Chris looked newly confident debuting music for his upcoming album, X. He dropped his video for the album’s first single, “Fine China” on April 1 to much fan fare. The song showed a new, Michael Jackson-inspired side of the R&B singer. Even though Chris has always been a successful artist, the buildup to X is way bigger than any of his previous albums. It promises to be a huge release for Chris.
Minus a few road bumps, it was definitely a great year for Chris. Join us, HollywoodLifers, in wishing him a happy 24th birthday!
