It took eight seasons and countless near encounters, but we finally got to meet Ted’s wife on ‘How I Met Your Mother’, and it was totally worth the wait because the perfect person was chosen!
After 183 episodes, eight seasons, and countless random guest stars, at long last hardcore fans know who Ted’s (Josh Radnor) future wife is! The mother/girl with the yellow umbrella was revealed on the How I Met Your Mother season finale on May 13, and I think the producers got it so right when they picked Ted’s lucky lady!
Cristin Milioti Is Perfect To Play Ted’s Future Wife
Stunning Broadway actress Cristin Milioti is Ted’s wife!
For seasons and seasons we have been teased with who would end up being the mother — for all a while we thought it was going to be Robin (Cobie Smulders), then there was the fear that it would turn out to be Katie Holmes‘ crazy character, and guest star Rachel Bilson seemed like a shoo in until Ted (or the dulcet tones of Bob Saget) revealed that it was her roommate would be the mother.
Cristin is the perfect person to be Ted’s wife! The second she stepped into the train station at the end of the episode — fans knew it was her because she was carrying her famous yellow umbrella and she was on route to Robin and Barney’s (Neil Patrick Harris) wedding — I knew she was the right choice.
Cristin is everything future Ted describes his wife as. She is brunette, pretty, and sweet, and I am so glad that we will get one full season with her in it! Season nine will be a dramatic turnaround, as inside of constantly waiting to meet the mother, instead we will see her and Ted fall in love!
Some fans were disappointed that an already established cast member — such as Robyn or one of the many brunette’s Ted dated — was not cast, but I definitely think introducing a fresh face was the right choice. It would have been a cop out to have one of the former crazies Ted dated become the mother.
Neil Patrick Harris Guessed Cristen Would Be The Mother
It’s not just me who thinks Cristen is perfect to be the mother — so does cast member Neil! HIMYM producer Carter Bays spoke to EW about how Neil guessed Cristen had been cast.
Neil walked into the makeup trailer while I was just chatting with Cristin, she was getting make-up to go do this screen test with Josh, and Neil walked in and looked at her and his eyes widened and he sort of said, 'Oh my God, are you the mother?!' And he gave her this big hug and was like, 'You're the mother!' And Cristin and I were like, 'No, it's still just an audition; it's not done. I'm not cast yet.'
