Selena Gomez swapped her white hot Versace dress for a sexy gold outfit at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, and she killed it singing “Come & Get It.” Once again, Selena performed her Bollywood routine and wore a Bindi on her forehead. Selena has faced controversy in the past for wearing a Bindi, but we think she looked amazing! What about you?
Selena Gomez’s BBMA Bindi — Wears One During Performance
Wearing a sexy gold corset dress and a Bindi for her performance, Selena looked just like Princess Leia in Star Wars! Selena totally killed it with her performance, but once again fans took to Twitter to slam Selena’s choice of accessory.
“Can someone please rip that bindi off Selena Gomez’s face,” tweeted Zoya S, while Blake Bush said “I feel like Selena Gomez shouldn’t sing a song with a Bindi on. Since she’s NOT Hindu. Just saying #BBMA.”
Selena wore a Bindi while performing on Ellen and Dancing with the Stars, and she first wore it at the April 14 MTV Movie Awards. Following that performance, Selena was slammed by the Hindu community.
Selena, 20, was asked to apologize by Hindu statesman, Rajan Zed, who spoke out about her blunder:
The Bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol… It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed. Selena should apologise and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions.
While sitting down with Elvis Duran on The Z100 Morning Show on April 24, Selena explains why she chooses to wear a Bindi while singing “Come & Get It.”
"I think the song has that Hindu, tribal feel and I wanted to translate that. I've been learning about my chakra and bindis and the culture — it's beautiful," said Selena.
I think Selena looks awesome wearing a Bindi, and considering she understands the culture behind it, the critics should leave her alone.
