Hot on the heels of his BFF Kanye West’s album release on June 18, Jay-Z will be releasing his own new album on July 4. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the birth of America!
Jay-Z’s New Album — ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ To Be Released On July 4
During a NBA Finals commercial on June 16, Jay-Z announced he will be releasing a new LP.
“We need to write the new rules,” Jay-Z is seen telling Timbaland in a video announcement.
Swizz Beatz, Pharell and Rick Rubin are also seen in the recording studio with Hov.
“The idea is to finish the album and drop it — giving it to the world at one time and letting them share it,” Jay-Z adds.
Jay-Z & Drake In The Studio Together
In a photo posted on May 20, Jay-Z and Drake were spotted in the studio together. Under the photo, producer Lenny S. wrote: "Warning: Please be very afraid of the music we're working on. OVO x ROCNATION."
At the time, it was unknown where the potential song would end up, but with Jay-Z releasing a new LP on July 4, it seems likely that this collaboration will show up on Magna Carta Holy Grail. Jay-Z’s last solo album, The Blueprint 3, was released in 2009.
Jay-Z and Drake have worked together in the past on "Light Up" off Drake's debut album Thank Me Later.
Magna Carta Holy Grail: ‘The Next Big Thing’
Promoted by Samsung Galaxy, the commercial dubs the record as “the next big thing.” We wouldn’t argue with that notion.
The album will be released first to Samsung Galaxy users who download a customized mobile app. Only the first million downloaders gain access to the album for free on July 4. The album will then be released to the general public three days later.
