Talk about bad timing! In a newly leaked song featured on the rapper’s upcoming album, Kanye talks about the binding commitment of parenthood and even touches on abortion, less than a month before his girlfriend Kim Kardashian is expected to give birth to their first child.
It’s only natural for new fathers to have second thoughts about parenthood. But did Kanye West broadcast his second thoughts to the world in the form of “Blood On The Leaves,” a leaked track off his upcoming album, Yeezus?
Kanye West: Is He Rapping Negatively About Parenthood?
The song touches on many deep topics, though in general it’s a song about rocky relationships. Towards the end of the track Yeezy somewhat cryptically raps about having a mistress who gets pregnant, and says the following lines:
Then she said she pregnant ain’t it
That’s the night your heart died
Then you gotta go and tell your girl and report that
Main reason cause your pastor said you can’t abort that
Kanye then goes on to highlight all of the things people can’t have or do once they become parents, and he dreadfully implies that having a child is a life sentence.
‘Blood On The Leaves’: Just A Cautionary Tale
“Blood On The Leaves” isn’t by any means autobiographical — it seems to be more of a study on relationships than a specific account — but it is noteworthy that Kanye touches on abortion, and perhaps its benefits, just weeks before his first child is born.
Thankfully Kanye is in a much different position than the people he touches on in the song. He’s not a guy who accidentally got a mistress pregnant — he’s having a child with the love of his life — so these “death sentences” don’t really apply to him.
Instead of thinking that Kanye is wary about becoming a father, we should use “Blood On The Leaves” as a point of comparison to realize that Kim and Kanye are bringing a baby into the world in a sound family environment.
