Kate Middleton, 31, and Prince William, 31, are set to be first-time parents in mid-July, after just two years after getting married. But the royal couple has known each other since their days as students at University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Kate Middleton & Prince William’s Courtship
Although it is widely reported the royal couple met when Kate was modeling lingerie in a university fashion show, the two had actually been friendly acquaintances for some time before the 2002 event. But when William saw Kate walk the catwalk in a slinky see-through lace slip, he reportedly couldn’t take his eyes off her. The couple began dating soon after.
Kate and William continued dating for years, only calling their relationship quits for a few months in 2007. Their courtship lasted for so long, Kate was starting to be dubbed “Waity Katie” by the tabloids. Fortunately, the Prince popped the question in October 2010, and the couple tied the knot in a lavish royal ceremony on April 29, 2011.
Kate Middleton Pregnant — Royal Couple Announces Pregnancy Early
After a year of marriage, baby reports were already swirling, and the couple wanted to start a family as soon as possible, However, they had to wait until the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, which celebrated Queen Elizabeth‘s 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne. The couple didn’t want to take the spotlight off of the Queen during her special time.
On Dec. 3, 2012, the couple was forced to reveal their good news early — Kate Middleton was pregnant, but hospitalized while suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. A few days later after her release, the couple posed outside of the hospital for official photos, and Kate returned home to recover.
Kate’s Pregnancy Fashion & Last Appearance Before Baby
Throughout the Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy, her maternity fashion and stylish coats were a major point of interest. However, the small-framed athletic 31-year-old didn’t show a baby bump for quite some time, sparking criticism that she was too thin.
Finally on May 21, Kate showed off a giant baby bump at a tea for Queen Elizabeth — and she revealed her pregnant figure one last time on June 15 before the heir to the throne arrives!
