Boston police have now released the thermal imaging video that helped them capture Dzhokhar on April 19. It’s a good thing he was caught, because Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis has also revealed that the two terrorist brothers could have carried out more attacks — they reportedly had at least six bombs in their possession to possibly ‘attack other individuals.’ Keep reading to watch the video.
On April 21, Boston police released the thermal imaging video of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s capture. The video, which uses heat sensing to see through objects, shows the suspect cowering inside a Watertown, Mass. resident’s boat, as police throw flash bang grenades into the boat and use a robot to remove the boat’s tarp before eventually detaining him.
Dzhokhar’s capture on the night of April 19 put an end to a draining day-long manhunt that began early in the morning when police chased Dzhokhar and his brother Tamerlan to Watertown, engaging in a shootout that killed Tamerlan. According to Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, that chain of events was set off by the FBI released surveillance photos of the two suspects on April 18.
Boston Bombing Suspects Had A ‘Plan’ For More Attacks
That revealing FBI press conference may have saved Boston from more bombings, Ed said in an interview on April 21. He revealed that the dangerous brothers had at least six bombs and many more weapons at their disposal, and that they could have used them against the public had they not been forced out by the FBI and Boston police.
Though stressing that there’s no way to know for sure, Ed said that the FBI’s photo release on April 18 “was the turning point in the investigation.”
“It's my belief that they were already manufacturing explosive devices. Further violent acts were inevitable,” the police commissioner said. Tamerlan and Dzhokhar used three of their six pressure cooker bombs during the chase and shootout with Boston police, but Ed continued to state that he thinks “there was a plan” for further terror attacks.
It’s such a relief then that the FBI and Boston police took action, killing Tamerlan during a shootout on April 19 and catching Dzhokhar later that day in Watertown, Mass.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev In Serious Condition, Will Be Charged Soon
Federal prosecutors are reportedly putting the final touches on the charges against Dzhokhar as he lies in serious condition in Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
The process of charging the suspect for his crimes at the Boston Marathon has been somewhat delayed by his health. Dzhokhar reportedly has a serious throat wound that is preventing him from speaking, according to NBC News. Governor Deval Patrick has said that Dzhokhar is “unable to communicate,” and Boston mayor Thomas Menino stated that investigators may never actually be able to talk to the bombing suspect.
“We don’t know if we’ll ever be able to question the individual,” the mayor flatly said.
There is still so much we don’t know about this horrible bombing — why the Tsarnaev brothers were driven to violence, how they were radicalized, if they are connected to a larger terrorist group — so officials are surely hoping to rehabilitate Dzhokhar to the point that he is able to speak.
