After officially being charged for his involvement in the Boston Marathon explosions, Dzhokhar admitted to authorities that he and his brother were behind the bombings.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving member of the sibling duo that set off multiple bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line April 15, has admitted to authorities that he and his older brother Tamerlan were behind the attack. He admitted to the crime April 21 and was officially charged April 22.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Admits He’s Guilty Of Bombing The Marathon
Dzhokhar, 19, admitted he was guilty of the crime to FBI agents who interviewed him at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, according to the Boston Globe. He had not yet been read his Miranda rights.
His attorneys may challenge the legal admissibility of those admissions, and well as the claim that he and Tamerlan acted alone. However, it’s most likely that he will pay for the crime — and he may even face the death penalty.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Officially Charged
Dzhokhar faced a magistrate judge who read him the charges from his hospital bed, according to the Boston Globe. He was reportedly charged with conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction against persons and property in the U.S. resulting in death, as well as one count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.
Dzhokhar was arrested on April 19 after a day-long manhunt in Boston. He had initially escaped an early morning shootout that killed Tamerlan, but was finally found hiding in a Watertown, Mass. resident’s boat later in the day.
On the morning of April 22, Dzhokhar was awake and capable of answering questions — though only by writing answers on paper because of damage to his throat — so he was also able to technically make his initial court appearance, when the magistrate judge visited him in the hospital.
