Martin Richard’s Funeral — Remembered By Friends & Family

Martin’s private ceremony was attended by close family, and his parents Bill and Denise Richard released a statement after the service finished on April 23, according to the Boston Globe.

"The outpouring of love and support over the last week has been tremendous. This has been the most difficult week of our lives, and we appreciate that our friends and family have given us space to grieve and heal,” the couple said in a statement.

The family also added that the Mass was private, and celebrated "with immediate family. We laid our son Martin to rest, and he is now at peace. We plan to have a public memorial service in the coming weeks to allow friends and loved ones from our community to join us for a celebration of Martin's life."

Boston Marathon Bombings — Martin Richard’s Tragic Death

The third grader was killed on April 15 after two bombs went off near the finish line at the annual Boston Marathon, believed to be planted by Chechen brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Martin was one of three killed, and 176 people were injured.

Martin was at the marathon watching his father Bill compete in the race. His mother Denise sustained injuries, and his sister Jane, 6, lost a leg. A candlelight vigil was held in his honor on April 16 in Boston.
