For the first time, you can witness the chilling moment when Cleveland police raided the kidnapper’s house to free Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight. Watch the incredible footage below.
Two Cleveland residents, Jasmina Baldrich and Ashley Colon, thought they were being pulled over by police on May 6. In fact, they just happened to be in front of Ariel Castro’s house at the exact moment that Cleveland police raided it, and the two girls caught the whole thing on tape.
Citizens Witness Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus & Michelle Knight’s Rescue
After noticing that the police presence around her was far too big to be for a traffic violation, Jasmina alertly whipped out her iPhone to document what was happening. The resulting video shows police prying open Ariel’s front door and flooding into the home, working quickly to free Amanda Berry and the two other victims, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.
The tail end of the video also manages to catch Amanda during her very first seconds of freedom. “We just seen the cops and then out of nowhere all we see is Amanda walking by saying, ‘I’m Amanda Berry,’” Jasmina told NewsChannel5.com.
The two lifelong Cleveland natives were stunned — they were familiar with Amanda’s case and assumed she was dead. But there she was right in front of them, clutching her 6-year-old child tightly. “We both got goosebumps at the same time,” Jasmina says. “We were shocked. We could not believe it, but it clicked.”
“People would die just to see these girls saved and we just happened to be there,” Ashley adds.
Amanda Berry: ‘I’m Free’
The two girls were front row witnesses to one of the biggest news stories this year. And up close, they were able to see Amanda’s chilling, supreme joy over being rescued from the man who had held her captive for close to a decade. “The tears were like, ‘I’m free,’” Ashley says, adding that she will never forget the moment.
