After weeks of deliberating what Jodi’s punishment should be for the murder of her boyfriend, the jury was unable to make a decision so a new jury will be picked to determine Jodi’s fate.

After Jodi Arias was charged for the murder of her boyfriend Travis Alexander, an Arizona jury was forced to determine the appropriate punishment for her crime. On May 23, the jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision and it was decided that they will not continue on the case, according to CNN.

Judge Sherry Stephenes declared a mistrial for penalty phase of Jodi’s trial. While the first-degree murder conviction still stands, a new jury will be chosen to decide Jodi’s penalty. The new penalty phase case will begin July 18.

Jodi Arias Begs For The Death Penalty

The new jury will decide whether Jodi will receive the death penalty or life in prison. Originally, Jodi was hoping to get the death penalty. In an interview twenty minutes after she was found guilty, Jodi admitted to Phoenix, Ariz. FOX affiliate that she would prefer the death penalty. “The worst outcome for me would be natural life,” Jodi revealed in the interview on May 8. “I said years ago that I'd rather get death than life, and that still is true today.” Jodi added, “I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I'd rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.” On May 21, Jodi changed her mind about the issue and begged for jurors to give her life in prison instead.
