Four days after Zach tragically lost his battle with a rare bone cancer on May 19, he was honored and remembered during a touching ceremony, and the inspirational effect he had on so many was truly felt.
Zach Sobiech, the 18-year-old singer who had touched millions of lives with his inspirational songs and messages, was laid to rest on May 23 after a beautiful, poignant funeral held at the Church of St. Michael in Stillwater, Minneapolis.
Overflowing Support At Zach Sobiech’s Funeral
The funeral, while tragic and sad, was a very touching way to remember Zach, who died after a four-year-long battle with osteosarcoma. In the beautifully decorated Minnesota church, the choir sang various versions of his inspirational song “Clouds,” according to a funeral attendee.
The outpouring of support since Zach’s passing has been enormous, and it was most apparent at his funeral. “All of Stillwater seems to have shown up for @ZachSobiech funeral. Standing room only,” the same attendee tweeted. “More people at #zachsobiech ‘s funeral than easter,” said another.
Zach’s family had anticipated such an huge turnout for the funeral and they even asked that people consider carpooling. “We are so grateful for the outpouring of support for our family. We are so humbled and a bit blown away by it all,” his mother, Laura Sobiech, wrote on Zach’s CaringBridge page. ”We anticipate Zach’s visitation and funeral will be well-attended. We will do our best to greet as many of you as we are able. Please consider carpooling as parking is limited,” Laura said.
Zach Sobiech’s Mother: He ‘Keeps Us Going’
Laura also reiterated that while Zach may have passed away, he will never die in the minds of those who loved him. “The beauty of Zach’s life keeps us going,” she wrote. “And while the loss of his physical presence and the zeal of his spirit have left a void that will never be filled, I do not regard his death as an ending so much as a transition. He waits peacefully for us.”
It cannot be overstated how inspirational and influential Zach has been — his song “Clouds” currently has 4,700,101 views, and that number is rapidly climbing. His message that “You don’t have to find out you’re dying to start living” is very moving, and an important lesson for the millions of Zach’s followers.
Zach was fittingly laid to rest with a beautiful ceremony, now it is our job to never forget him and his message, and honor him by never taking life for granted.
