President Obama has spoken out about the devastating tornado that hit Oklahoma on May 20, killing 91 people, and he said that the people of Oklahoma will ‘get everything they need right away,’ and he urged Americans to offer their support.

On May 21, President Barack Obama appeared from the White House to address the devastating carnage caused by a tornado that traveled through the suburbs of Oklahoma. The president urged American citizens to offer support to the red cross, and he said that urgent assistance from Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas was on route to help the citizens of Moore. He also promised that the “frightened children who need love and attention” will get it.

President Obama: ‘There Will Be Grief’ For People Of Moore

President Obama spoke on national news the day after he signed a disaster declaration for Oklahoma, clearing the way for federal aid.

President Obama said he would “offer direct assistance” to the people of Moore, and that his main priority is that “Oklahoma will get everything it needs right away.”

“Our prayers are with the people of Oklahoma today. Our gratitude is with the teachers who gave their all to shield their children, with the neighbors and first-responders.

“As a nation our full focus right now is on the urgent work of rescue.

“The people of Moore should know that their country will remain on the ground, there for them, beside them as long as it takes.

“There are empty spaces where there used to be living rooms and bedroom and classrooms and in time we will need to refill those spaces with laughter, community. We don't yet know the full extent of the damage.

“If there is hope to hold onto to, not just in Oklahoma but around the country, its knowledge that the good people there in Oklahoma are better prepared for this type of storm than most and what they can be certain of is that Americans from every corner of this country will be right there with them.

“We've seen that spirit in Joplin, Tuscaloosa, we say that spirit in Boston, Breezy Point and that's what the people of Oklahoma are going to need right now.”

Oklahoma Tornado: 91 Dead, 24 Children Feared Dead Inside School

Rescuers are aggressively searching through the debris to find 24 students, between the ages of five and eight, who went missing after Plaza Towers Elementary School took a hit during the horrific storm, according to Mail Online.

Hundreds of homes, a hospital and another school were among the buildings flattened by the 200mph winds, leaving residents of the town stunned and devastated.

“Our hearts are broken for the parents that are wondering about the state of their children that had been in the schools that have been hit today,” Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said. “I know that there are families wondering where their loved ones are.”

She also said that rescuers were “looking under every single piece of debris” for the missing.
