Nina tells HollywoodLife.com which Salvatore she’d like to see Elena with at the end of the season. Watch!
Thanks to master-teaser Julie Plec, we know that Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be forced to choose — once again — between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) on the May 16 season finale of The Vampire Diaries, but it’s still anyone’s guess which brother will reign supreme at the end of the hour. Tired of waiting, we went straight to Nina for her thoughts.
“I would like Elena to go to Europe and go backpacking for a year,” Nina told HollywoodLife.com on May 3 at the Origins GinZing launch in NYC. ”[She should] ditch the boys and experience some life without the vampires.”
Will Elena End Up Alone?
I’m sure Nina was at least partially kidding, but her answer is actually worth considering. Is it possible that Elena will, in fact, reject both of the brothers and choose to be alone? Julie told our sister site TVLine that we’ll know “where everyone stands” in the love triangle, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Elena will be with one brother or the other.
Perhaps Elena will take a cue from another vampire lover, True Blood‘s Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin)! When push came to shove at the end of the show’s fourth season, Sookie told Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) that she needed some time to herself to sort things out, which makes me think…
Elena Should End Up Alone
Elena is approaching the end of her most harrowing season yet, both in terms of her vampirism and her Ping-Pong-inspired love life. Between losing Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), breaking up with Stefan and becoming physically involved with Damon, it’s no wonder Elena went completely off the deep end.
Maybe what Elena really needs is a fresh start — a clean slate that doesn’t include a boyfriend, which only ever complicates things for her. As the great RuPaul often says, “If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?”
