The ‘White House Down’ actor showed his support for slain teenager Trayvon Martin, 17, with a T-shirt screen printed with Trayvon’s face in a hoodie. How touching.
More than a year after Trayvon Martin, 17, was tragically shot and killed by George Zimmerman 29, near his Florida neighborhood, actor Jamie Foxx, 45, showed support once again for the murdered teenager. The Django Unchained actor wore a Trayvon T-shirt to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, and sported one again at the 2013 BET Awards on June 30.
Jamie Fox Shows Support For Trayvon Martin
Jamie attended the BET Awards in a white T-shirt screen printed with an outline of Trayvon’s face in a hooded sweatshirt. Trayvon was famously wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head when he was shot and killed by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman on Feb. 26 2012.
George Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder, and has pleaded not guilty, claiming self defense. As the trial continues in Sanford, Fla., Jamie is continuing to show his support for the murdered teenager.
He also wore a black T-shirt to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on April 14 with Trayvon’s face on it with the words, “Know Justice, Know Peace.”
Jamie Foxx Explains Support For Trayvon Martin
The 45-year-old actor, who accepted the Best Actor BET Award for his role in Django Unchained, revealed how he got so involved with Trayvon’s case when he visited The Tonight Show on June 11.
He said on the show:
I was at the Image Awards and I run into Trayvon Martin's mom and she has tears in her eyes…she said, 'my boy is gone.’ I won't share with you exactly what she said, but I'm standing next to my 19-year-old daughter and tears filled my eyes because I was thinking, 'what would I do if my daughter wasn't there?' And she asked me, 'would you come personally and just stand with me. No political, no Black, no White, just about a child that was murdered.
So touching. It’s great that Jamie is showing support for a cause he believes so strongly in!
