LL Cool J has been a celebrity since he was 17, but he managed to not get caught up in the pitfalls of childhood stardom. He has expanded his career into his forties, and has even raised a family while still keeping up an incredibly successful career — so how did he do it? By making sure family comes first!
LL Cool J: ‘Your Kids Need You, Not Your Stuff’
In celebration of Father’s Day, LL Cool J hosted an event put on by Bing called Bing It On Father’s Day Challenge at The Standard in New York City on June 11, and HollywoodLife.com had the chance to EXCLUSIVELY talk to LL about balancing kids and a career. He told us:
[I do it by] prioritizing, and not putting money before my children. I’m on tour right now, but I carved out a date for my daughter’s graduation to make sure I could be there. Because your kids need you, not your stuff. Not just things. Relationships aren’t about things, they’re about people connecting.
He also revealed that some celebrities take their kids for granted, and don’t give the love and support they should. He adds:
Some people, who live a life like mine at this point, might try to buy their kids. And you can’t do that. I just want to be there for them.
What a dad! It can’t be easy to balance singing, acting, an entrepreneurial career and a family, but LL Cool J proves it is entirely possible!
Do YOU think some celebrities put their money and fame before their kids, HollyMoms?
