The Manhattan nanny accused of brutally killing two young children claims she is innocent as she faces life in jail.

Yoselyn Ortega, 50, who is charged with murdering the two children she cared for, Leo, 2, and Lulu, 6, is pleading not guilty to the charges — yet cannot offer any other explanation as to who killed the innocent children.

Yoselyn Pleading Not Guilty To Murder Charges

Yoselyn is accused of brutally murdering Lulu and Leo in the bathtub of their Upper West Side apartment. The parents, Marina and Kevin Krim, returned home from another child’s swim lessons to discover the lifeless bodies of two of their children in the upstairs bathroom. Their nanny, Yoselyn, also stabbed herself in the throat.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Yoselyn proclaims her innocence to the charges. She tells the paper

I didn't do that. Someone else did.

Yoselyn is being charged with two counts each of first-degree murder and second-degree murder. She appeared before the Manhattan Supreme Court June 11 where a judge acknowledged that she is in “a situation where (she) has put her mental condition at issue."

Family Of Slain Children Looking To Move Forward

After the murders, Marina and Kevin sought refuge with family in California. However, on May 16 they posted on their Facebook page for the Lulu & Leo Fund, a foundation created in memory of their children, that they were expecting another child, a boy. The Facebook message read:

Hello everyone,

We are very happy to let you know that Marina is expecting a baby in the fall. Nessie can't wait to welcome her new baby brother. We are filled with many emotions as we look to the future, but the most important one is hope.

We are very grateful to you all for your amazing support.

- Marina and Kevin.

We are so incredibly happy for the Krims’ as they start this new chapter in their lives after such tragedy. Let’s hope that Lulu and Leo will receive the justice they deserve and the court decides whether Yoselyn is guilty or innocent.

– Avery Thompson
