Five days after the Inauguration lip syncing scandal, Beyoncé appears to be making a statement through a suggestive shirt. See the pic!
Beyoncé has yet to speak out about her lip syncing scandal, pertaining to her performance of the National Anthem at the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21. Instead, she is saying all that she wants to say — on her shirt! Beyoncé came under fire for lip syncing “The Star Spangled Banner” at President Barack Obama's second inauguration, but according to reports, she doesn’t think it was a big deal. Is her suggestive shirt her way of saying she doesn’t care?
Beyoncé’s Shirt Makes A Statement
While rehearsing for her performance at the Superbowl on Feb. 3, Beyoncé made what seems to be a strong sartorial statement on her Instagram on Jan. 26, where she posted a black-and-white photo of herself in sunglasses, a baseball cap, and a sweatshirt reading, “Can I live?” This is a lyric from one of Jay-Z‘s songs, but it also seems like Beyoncé’s way of saying she is over it.
Beyoncé seems carefree and nonchalant in the picture, as she raises her hands in the air in a questionable manner. Perhaps she is right to make a joke of the singing scandal, and other celebrities have jumped to her defense.
Celebrities Defend Beyoncé
Jennifer Lopez appeared on The Daily Show on Jan. 22, where host Jon Stewart asked her about the drama. She said, "In certain venues and stuff, they do prerecord things, because you're going to have that terrible slapback." Jon, clearly confused by the term, replied, "Sure. Slapback." She added, "All performers do have to do it at some point."
LeAnn Rimes visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! on the same night, where she faced similar questions. The country star also defended Beyoncé, albeit in a rather convoluted way. She argued that it may not have been the singer's decision. "I'm actually taking up for her on this one," LeAnn said. "There are times when people will ask you to do it, and they will not let you do it unless you do it because they want control over what happens."
While J.Lo and LeAnn defended the lip syncing, Katy Perry confusingly offered a different explanation. When asked by X17Online.com if she had a comment on the controversy, the "Firework" singer simply said, "She didn't lip sync." Huh?
Beyoncé's former Destiny's Child bandmate Michelle Williams spoke in favor of her friend to Entertainment Tonight, saying, "I will say this, it's not the first or the last time that someone has had to lip-sync…my greatest singer of all time, Whitney Houston, it came to light that her anthem was in fact lip-synced."
She added, "It's their personal preference. With big crowds and echoes, you know when it's a big historical moment, you don't want any room for any mistakes so I can understand why it was done."
Aretha Franklin laughed off the controversy with ABC News, saying, "I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather…When I heard that I just really cracked up. I thought it was really funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record."
What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Is Beyoncé right to make a funny statement through her shirt, or should she make a formal statement?
