Stop reading now if you haven’t seen the Jan. 27 episode of ‘Downton Abbey!’ (Also, buy a DVR!)

The TV world lost a gem of a character Jan. 27 when Downton Abbey‘s Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay) died during childbirth — technically we actually lost her back when the episode originally aired last October in the U.K., but whatever — and as always, fans used social media to express their outrage.

While opinions are like Twitter handles — everybody’s got one — I decided to sift through the internet and pick out some of my personal favorite reactions.

My first selection comes from comedian Patton Oswalt, whose live tweets of Downton Abbey are among the best things on Twitter. Rather than wish the writers had decided to let Sybil live, Mr. Oswalt dreamt up a supernatural scenario in which the residents of Downton literally battle the forces of life and death to revive her.

I want Carson, Bates, and The Dowager Countess to storm the afterworld, pig-punch the Grim Reaper, and GET SYBIL BACK. #PBSDownton

Others chose — and still choose — to remain in complete denial that it even happened, like Nina Brown.

@clairefbrown LADY SYBIL IS TAKING A NAP AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU SAY IS BLASPHEMY!

But humans weren’t the only ones angry about the tragedy. A parody account for the Mars Rover — is that thing still up there? — chimed in with its own analysis of the evening’s events.

Just named a Mars rock “Lady Sybil”… so it’ll probs be my favorite and then get lasered off for no good f–king reason.

And then there’s fantasy writer Meg Overman, who had the courage to say what so many of us were thinking: It should have been Edith!

Is #itshouldhavebeenedith a thing yet? #Downton
