Editorial Assistant Caitlin Miller wanted a major change, so she turned to the pros at Angelo David Salon in NYC to take her long, limp locks from drab to fab.
I’ve never been one to shy away from change, and as a 23-year-old young woman, I was wanted a look to take me from recent college grad to a young professional. As a natural dirty blonde, I was looking for a color to liven up my fair skin and a hair cut that was fun and flirty. Arming myself with an image of Emma Watson, I ventured to the celebrity stylists at Angelo David Salon in New York City.
The Cut & Color
I envied Emma’s adorable cropped do and copper color, and Ivan Torres, stylist at Angelo David, was prepared for the challenge.
“Caitlin opted to have a graduated textured bob with side bangs, which is the perfect style to frame her features beautifully,” says Ivan. He explained, because I am fair skinned with a slightly pink pigmentation, a copper blonde color would best complement my skin tone.
After the temporary color faded a few weeks later, I went back to Angelo David to touch up my hair and ultimately complete my look. Color specialist Meaghan Frayne brought me to a warmer blonde, which she executed by coloring the regrowth and adding a few blonde highlights around my face.
The Brows
A good makeover is never complete without a fabulous brow treatment. Brow expert and celebrity makeup artist, Julie Tussey tackled my full brows and explained to me why a bold brow is a must for women. “Big brows are very empowering,” she says. “I call them face jewelry,” she says.
As someone who has always loved my naturally dark and full brows, I was shocked to learn that my brows were actually overworked! Julie explained that my brows were too short for my face shape and were over-plucked in several areas.
She started by squaring up my brows and making them the perfect long angled shape. Julie taught me not to be afraid of using a brow pencil while waiting for my brows to regrow, since growing in a natural bold brow can take anywhere from three to six months. Finding a great brow pencil like Laura Mercier’s Eyebrow Pencil is a must! “But only use the pencil where there’s missing hair,” says Julie.
Over several weeks, she worked to elongate and shape my brows into just the perfect shape. Thanks, Julie!
The Makeup
To top off the makeover, Julie took my normally hum drum makeup routine to extra glam. Because I am a young woman, Julie wanted to keep me fresh and youthful looking. She kept my makeup pink and peachy to complement my fair skin tone.
Julie added the finishing touches on my lips with Dior Addict Extreme 336. The lip color is a lovely shade of pink with just a hint of coral. Perfect to give me just the pop I needed!
Overall, I could not be more pleased with my extreme makeover. I feel more confident, mature and gorgeous. Thanks, Angelo David!
