Poor Kristen — she was blindsided by Rob’s request for a trial separation, a source close to the actress tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. But here’s how she’ll make it work!

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson‘s relationship faced a tough year in 2012. Kristen’s affair with married film director Rupert Sanders destroyed Rob’s world last summer. But when the year closed, the Twilight couple seemed to be stronger than ever, and they spent a romantic New Year‘s together in Rob’s hometown in London. But now, Rob dropped a MAJOR bombshell, because he told Kristen he wants a trial separation while he is in Australia filming The Rover. And while Kristen is “bummed”, she is “determined to make it work no matter it takes”. Read on for all the exclusive details!

Kristen’s Feelings About The Separation

Rob, 26, and Kristen, 22, spent their last few days together in L.A., where they both attended a Golden Globes after party on Jan. 13, before Rob left for Australia. He arrived down under on Jan. 17 — looking in a good mood — to begin filming. Kristen is currently not filming any new projects, because her newest film Focus is on the back burner since Ben Affleck dropped out.

Since Kristen is not working at the moment, she is even more devastated that Rob does not want her to visit him while he’s away.

“Of course Kristen is bummed that Rob wants a trial separation,” a friend of Kristen’s tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “She honestly didn’t see that coming. She was looking forward to spending some time with him in Australia. But she also knows she messed up with the whole Rupert thing — she just wishes Rob would move forward with the relationship instead of dwelling in the past.”

This must suck for Kristen. It really seemed like the couple were well and truly past all the Rupert drama, but perhaps Rob really feels he needs this time alone to make their relationship work in the long run. And Kristen in not giving up on them!

“She definitely didn’t want a trial separation,” her friend continues. “But she’s willing to do whatever makes Rob happy. She’s determined to make it work no matter it takes!”

That’s the spirit, Kristen! Give Rob his space, but don’t give up on him. Kristen is showing how mature she is with this attitude, and it is the sure fire way to get herself back in Rob’s arms.

Rob’s Reasons For The Separation

HollywoodLife.com previously reported that Rob called for the separation, as he felt that things were moving too fast.

"Rob and Kristen are on a trial separation right now,” a source told us exclusively. ”For Kristen, it's all or nothing. She's ready for marriage, but Rob is over the relationship. They're not going to see each other in Australia. When Rob returns, they'll assess their relationship, but he doesn't want to get back together. Rob's been shaky ever since the cheating scandal." On the other hand, Kristen wants to get back together "because she's co-dependent."

Whether Rob does or doesn’t want the relationship to continue, those are bones he will have to bury if he and Kristen are going to have a lasting relationship.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Kristen is being mature about the trial separation? Do you think Rob will give her another chance?
