Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the alleged mastermind behind the Manti Te’o fake girlfriend hoax, stood before Usher, Shakira, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton in 2012, vying for a spot on the upcoming season of ‘The Voice,’ but producers now suspect his emotional story for TV is fake as well.

When Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was named as the suspected mastermind behind Manti Te’o's fake girlfriend hoax, producers from The Voice reportedly suspected he engineered a fake story while auditioning for the fourth season of their show as well.

“He had this insane sob story before [he sang],” an insider reveals to Us Weekly. “It would make for great TV.”

Ronaiah reportedly told producers that he and his cousins started a Christian band together and were on their way to perform at a youth conference in Nevada when they got into a “massive” car accident. He continued to tell producers that a truck crashed into their vehicle, sending them spinning all over the freeway. He said that although doctors thought one of them might have been brain-dead, everyone was fine.

Ronaiah ”passed a background check and psych evaluation,” the source continues. “Nothing came up, no suspicious behavior.” However, after Manti Te’o death hoax came to light, “people now think the sob story is fake.”

No worries, though. ”No one turned their chair around,” for Ronaiah, the insider says.

The Girlfriend Hoax

Manti revealed that his 72-year-old grandmother died in early September 2012, while his “girlfriend” Lennay Kekua supposedly died just one day later of leukemia. During his very next football game, Manti had a record 12 tackles, helping lead his time to an inspiring 20-3 win.

However, as Deadspin has revealed after thorough investigation, there was no record of Lennay's death anywhere, and the photos that had been identified as the young woman were actually those of a 23-year-old from California, Diane O’Meara, who had never met the football player.

Manti issued a statement on Jan. 16, claiming he had been the victim of a "sick joke,” one allegedly created by Ronaiah.
