Lazaro Arbus — you totally demonstrated what true courage is when you stepped in front of the ‘American Idol’ judges and sang, even though you could barely speak.

Lazaro Arbus, you overcame a debilitating stutter when you appeared on American Idol, Jan. 17, and astounded the judges with your soaring rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water!”

It must have been so hard for you to stand in front of Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urbanand Randy Jackson and know that you would have a challenging time just speaking. You really do have a strong stutter.

You described your stutter as a “roller coaster,” when Mariah asked you about it. “Speaking with a stutter is really hard. The things that normal people would think would be so easy became hard for me,” you explained.

It was such a poignant moment. At 21, you have such a sweet, handsome face and your emotions were easy to read. You explained that you’ve dealt with this debilitating stutter since you were a young child, who emigrated with your parents from Cuba when you were just 10.

How Music Has Saved Lazaro Arbus’s Life

Music has been your lifeline — you loved it — and it kept you going when you were so lonely because you had no friends because you couldn’t communicate.

Your Godsend was that the stutter disappears when you sing.” When someone with a speech problem focuses on a focused activity like singing, they can possibly improve their disorder, ” NYC internist, Dr. Ronald Minutoli, confirms to Hollywoodlife.com.

Though right now, you’re scooping ice cream to support yourself in Naples, Florida, you could have just opened up the door to a whole new career for yourself.

Your singing voice was rich, stunning and emotional. I know that I was in tears listening to you.

Mariah Carey and Keith Urban’s Strong Reactions

“Just sing all the time, beautiful voice,” Keith Urban told you after your performance. Mariah gave you a big hug and encouragement. “You’re adorable, you’re gonna do great,” she told you.

Lazaro, you are adorable, but you really are also an inspiration to other young people who suffer from stuttering or any other disabilities that make it hard for them to express themselves.

And you took to this challenge of facing millions of people with grace and poise, even though you knew how you would literally be fighting for words in front of four of the world’s top musical stars.

Lazaro Arbus’s Twitter Reaction

Since your appearance on the show last night, you’ve been so happy, you’ve been tweeting up a storm. “goodnight world this has been the most amazing night of my life” and “I never dreamed that moment would happen.”

Best of luck to you Lazaro on American Idol and in life and thank you for so bravely inspiring others who have challenges. You are showing us all how courage can overcome a disability. What do you think HollywoodLifers – were you as impressed as I was with Lazaro Arbos? Let me know.
