The 26-year-old who made NFL history by being the first woman ever to try out for the league had her hopes devastatingly crushed on Sunday, Mar. 3. But it wasn’t even due to a lack of ability — Lauren admitted that she had been trying out with a quadriceps injury. How brave!

As if we didn’t have enough to look up to Lauren Silberman for — not only is she brave enough to try to break into a male-dominated sport, she’s also brave enough to try to play through a tough leg injury!

Lauren’s historic tryout ended uneventfully, as she only attempted two lackluster kicks. But it quickly became clear that it was more than nerves getting in the way.

Lauren Silberman’s NFL Tryout Ends With An Injury

The former University of Wisconsin soccer player was seen clutching at her right kicking leg before bowing out of the tryout. Afterwards, Lauren admitted that she had injured her right quadriceps, which is the group of muscles at the front of the thigh, a little more than a week before.

“I tried to work through the pain,” the kicker told CBS New York. “But I just couldn’t do it today.”

Lauren Silberman’s Tryout: Just A Stunt?

The general response to Lauren’s history-making tryout has been mixed. While some praise her fortitude and courage in the face of a male-dominated sport with the odds up against her, others have accused the tryout as a publicity stunt by the NFL, an opinion which has only gained steam since Lauren’s short kicks.

But let’s be honest — could any NFL kicker kick a football that far with a torn quadriceps in their kicking leg? My guess is no.

Lauren’s injury and subsequent disappointing tryout don’t diminish the steps she took on Sunday — in fact, they just add to an already amazing story!

“I’m just really happy I had this amazing experience,” Lauren positively said after the tryout. “I may be the first woman trying out for the NFL, but I certainly hope I’m not the last.”

That’s something we can agree with.

What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Is this an inspiring story, or just a publicity stunt? Let us know!
