Two explosions occurred at the finish line of the Boston marathon on April 15, killing three people and injuring 176. Police consider the event an act of terrorism, and here are the five reasons why.
Following the two terrifying explosions at the Boston marathon on April 15, the Boston Police have come to the conclusion that the attack was an act of terrorism. The poor quality of the bombs, the high profile location and many other reasons show that this was an act of domestic terrorism. Read on to find out why.
Five Reasons Why The Explosions Could Be A Domestic Terrorist Attack
1) The bombs appear home made – The devices appeared to be crudely made, making it unlikely that they were the work of a foreign government or global terrorist group, such as Al Qaeda, the experts said to the Boston Globe. Many more people would have been killed if they were more high tech.
2) The event is so high profile – The Boston Marathon is such a high profile event because it draws a large number of runners and spectators, has a live worldwide television audience, and coincides with the Patriots Day holiday. Terrorists “have traditionally sought large, symbolic, high visibility targets to attack," said a 2003 Police report.
3) It appeared to be planned – CNN called the tragedy a “well-planned event.” CBS News reports that police found surveillance video showing someone carrying multiple backpacks into the area about 20 minutes before explosions. Ed Davis, police commissioner of Boston, called the case “most complicated crime scene in the history of the department.” It sounds like this was someone who knows the area.
4) The Police already have a local suspect – Police are questioning a "person of interest" who was injured during the blast at Brigham and Women's Hospital, an official tells The Boston Globe. No arrests have been made in connection with the bombings yet.
5) President Obama confirms the investigation for terrorism – “We will find who did this, and we will bring them to justice,” said the president on April 16. “We will not be terrorized and we will make every effort to find out who did this.”
