Martin Richard Dead: 8-Year-Old Boy Identified As First Victim Of Boston Bombings
Martin, a third grader, was standing with his mother Denise Richard and sister, 6, when bombs hidden in bins exploded within 12 second of each other, according to The Boston Globe.
Before the explosions, Martin reportedly walked out on the track to hug his dad Bill Richard as he went to cross the finishing line. But when Bill continued on, Martin turned back to rejoin his mother and two of his siblings just as the first bomb exploded. Reports claims that his mother was seriously injured and his sister lost her leg in the blast.
Denise reportedly underwent surgery on April 15 for an injury to her brain.
The status of Martin’s father is unknown and a third child was reportedly unharmed in the explosion.
Late last night, locals gathered at Tavolo Restaurant, in the family’s hometown of Dorchester, Mass. to remember Martin and his family.
“[The Richard family is] beloved by this community. They contribute in many ways. That's why you see this outpouring,” City Councilor at Large Ayanna Pressley told The Boston Globe. "It's surreal, it's tragic, it's incomprehensible. Everyone here tonight is trying to comfort one another and be prayerful.”
Boston Explosions Affected Many, Many Lives
