Ian & Nina visited Kayla — who has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis — and continue to support her battle with the disease.
While some people spent their Easter weekends coloring eggs and dreaming of giant bunnies, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were busy making one young fan’s dream come true. During their holiday visit to Toronto, the Vampire Diaries stars stopped by the Hospital For Sick Children to visit 14-year-old Kayla Baker, an ailing fan in need of new lungs — and they took some pretty adorable pictures.
One shot finds the trio straight-smiling for the camera, but my personal favorite — and the one shown above — is a little more action-packed, with both on-screen vamps baring their fangs and making a meal out of Kayla, who looks overjoyed to have her favorite stars with her at the hospital.
On April 3, along with the photos, Nina posted a thoughtful message about Kayla to her official WhoSay account:
Id like to ask everyone who reads this to send out positive energy to @Kayla_0507 tonight. Just take one moment of your time to think of her and put it out there in the universe. Think happy thoughts and smile :) The secret.. We can make anything happen.
How Ian & Nina Are Supporting Kayla — And How You Can Help
On April 4, Ian tweeted a link to the Run aLung website, which is devoted to generating awareness of Kayla’s two dreams: Receiving new lungs, and raising $10,000 for the SickKids Foundation. The 5k run/walk will take place May 11 in Cambridge, and if Kayla receives new lungs in time, she can join everyone on the trail.
The Run aLung website has instructions on how you can register for the race and/or donate directly to the foundation.
