The 18-year-old musician tragically lost his long battle with bone cancer May 19.
Zach Sobiech may have passed away, but his message of hope lives on through his music — and that message has a larger reach than ever now that his most popular song, “Clouds,” has skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on the iTunes chart.
“#clouds is #1 on ITUNES,” tweeted Justin Baldoni, who directed and produced the documentary My Last Days: Meet Zach Sobiech. “Every download goes to @ZachSobiech fund. I am overwhelmed…I don’t even know what to say.”
“Clouds” was released in Dec. 2012, six months after doctors told Zach he had less than a year to live. He’d been diagnosed with osteosarcoma at just 14 years old, and spent the remaining four years of his life battling the illness.
Since it was posted Dec. 5, “Clouds” has received more than 4 million hits on YouTube — a number that has already grown exponentially since Zach passed away.
Zach’s Family ‘Blessed By His Amazing Presence’
Following Zach’s untimely passing, his family released the following statement:
It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our son Zachary David Sobiech. Our family has been blessed not only by his amazing presence in our lives, but also by the love and support of our family and friends and by so many people in the community. In particular we'd like to thank those people who listened with their hearts and helped Zach bring his message and his music to the world.
