Scandal strikes again for Anthony. The New York City mayoral candidate was forced to admit he sent a woman sexual messages and lewd photos one year after he resigned following a previous sexting scandal.
Anthony Weiner, who shocked the world in 2011 after he was caught sexting with another woman, is back in the public’s bad graces after an unidentified woman came forward on July 23 to claim she had a virtual affair with the former Congressman from July 2012 to November 2012. Anthony confirmed the chats and photos she revealed were real in a statement released by his campaign on July 23. Read on for all the details.
Anthony Weiner Sexting Again — New Scandal, Featuring Carlos Danger
Anthony, who was forced to resign from Congress in June 2011 due to a sexting scandal, had been leading the polls in the race for mayor of New York City. His campaign was centered around the idea that he was a changed man, but it looks like that was all an act.
Although Anthony previously said he had other relationships that hadn’t yet been revealed at the time of his resignation, this alleged affair happened well after that. The 22-year-old woman, who claims she spoke to Anthony as recently as April 2013, says she frequently talked to Anthony online and they had phone sex daily.
The woman sent screenshots of conversations she had with Anthony to gossip site The Dirty, which published the chats and photos.
In the chats, a man believed to be Weiner was using the screen name Carlos Danger or Dangr33 to talk about his sexual fantasies with the unnamed woman.
Will Anthony Weiner’s Wife Stand By Him Through Another Sexting Scandal?
Anthony’s wife, Huma Abedin, stood by him through the last scandal. Huma, a close aid to Hilary Clinton, was revealed to be pregnant with the couple’s first child in the midst of the 2011 scandal. We can’t imagine how she must feel after this news.
Anthony released the following statement on July 23:
“I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have,” he said. “As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress.”
“While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong. This behavior is behind me. I’ve apologized to Huma and am grateful that she has worked through these issues with me and for her forgiveness.”
