'Fifty Shades of Grey' fans had mixed reactions when they learned that relatively unknown actress Dakota would be playing Anastasia Steele in the movie adaptation of the popular erotic novel — but we’re already convinced she can pull off the part! Dakota looked effortlessly sexy when she was photographed for the first time since author E.L. James made the casting announcement on Sept. 2. Read on for all the details!

Everyone wants to know more about Dakota Johnson now that she's been chosen to play Anastasia Steele in the the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey. On Sept. 4, two days after the big reveal, the beautiful blonde was spotted on the set of her upcoming movie Cymbelline. Can you picture her as Anastasia Steele?

Dakota Johnson ‘Cymbelline’ — First Sexy Pic Since ’50 Shades’ Reveal

Dakota, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, was snapped in cut-off jean shorts, a sexy off-the-shoulder white top and dark sunglasses while on the set of Cymbelline, in which she stars opposite Gossip Girl‘s Penn Badgley. Right now, Dakota, 23, is a far cry from the pale, scruffy brunette we’ve all read so much about in Fifty Shades, but we can totally see how the fresh-faced actress could become Ana. All she needs is a little dye job and a lot of awkwardness!

We can’t wait to see her transformation!

Dakota Johnson: The Backlash Does Hurt

While we think Dakota is a great pick for the part of Ana, critics and fans alike went wild after the news broke that she had landed the sought-after role. But sources told us Dakota can’t wait to prove them all wrong!

HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY spoken to a source close to Dakota, who revealed that she's working with Charlie Hunnam — her new Christian Grey — to shake off all the nasty comments:

Dakota's doing her best not to let all the mean comments get to her because she knows that it goes with the territory but still, some of the things people have been saying are pretty awful — especially the stuff about her looks. Thank God they're being just as awful about Charlie [Hunnam] because at least she's not alone. They're bonding over it and laughing about it. She's sensitive so obviously it hurts, but at the end of the day this role is a dream come true for her, she really wants to do an amazing job and prove all the haters wrong.

Dakota is a much less established star than some of the other names attached to the part — her biggest acting credit to date was a starring role on the cancelled Fox sitcom Ben and Kate. She has also been featured in The Social NetworkNeed for Speed21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement.

Still, it might be for the best that the team behind Fifty Shades cast a lesser-known star. With so many avid fans harboring thoughts about who Anastasia is, choosing Dakota will allow them to paint their own ideas onto her, because they likely don’t know anything else about her. That trick wouldn’t be as easy if say, Emma Watson took on the role, with her history of playing Hermione Granger getting in the way.

But what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Is Dakota the right choice for the role of Anastasia Steele? Let us know!
