The ‘X Factor’ judge says she hopes to inspire people with her portrayal of Santana’s new flame, Dani.
We’re all excited that Demi Lovato is joining Glee in its fifth season, but for the record, no one is more excited than Demi herself. She stopped by On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Sept. 4 to discuss her new role — she’s playing the love interest of Naya Rivera‘s Santana – and the impact she hopes it’ll have on young viewers all across the country.
Here’s how she explained herself on Ryan’s show:
I don't want people to take from this, 'Oh my god, Demi is kissing a girl.’ I want people to take from it this is actually an incredible step in our generation today where I'm able to play a young lesbian on primetime TV. … I'm honored to be able to be hopefully inspiring people with my character to be who they are and not be afraid of it or ashamed.
Well said!
As for Demi’s on-set experience thus far, the “Heart Attack” singer said she’s been having an “awesome” time.
“I'm good friends with a lot of the cast members already,” she continued. “So it was like walking into a giant hang-out."
‘Glee’ Season 5: Demi Lovato’s New Role Revealed
Through a series of candid red-carpet interviews and TMI tweets, Demi and her Glee co-stars have actually revealed quite a bit about her character, Dani.
Along with being Santana’s love interest — a fact Naya casually dropped before the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards — Demi’s character, Dani, is also a struggling artist who will get to sing with fellow Glee newbie Adam Lambert.
