All good things must come to an end, right? After Miley’s mind-blowing, borderline offensive performance at the VMAs on Aug. 25, her relationship with Liam has never been on weaker ground. But the couple may have been doomed even before that. Here’s why.
Not too long ago, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were Hollywood’s hottest couple, with Miley saying things like, “The other day, I turned on the pool heater and it was steaming, and he walked outside and took off his clothes and jumped in the pool. I was like, 'I'm gonna faint – the hottest guy of my life is in a steaming pool,’” in a January interview with Cosmopolitan. But eight months later things aren’t so sweet, with Miley reportedly no longer even caring if she and Liam split. So why has everything gone so wrong?
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth: Why A Breakup May Be Imminent
1. Miley’s VMA Performance
Most men are going to have a problem with seeing their girlfriend grind and twerk on another man in front of millions of people. But it sort of makes things WAY worse that Miley sexed up her performance specifically to infuriate Liam. “Miley and Liam had an argument the day of the show,” a source told HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “she was really upset and she took it all out onstage, so the performance got even crazier than they had planned because Miley was really amped up.”
2. They Don’t Exactly Agree On Privacy Matters
In 2012, Liam got so aggravated by Miley’s oversharing that he actually asked her to get off of Twitter. She did — but not for long. These days she’s back to tweeting things like, “Just called this paparazzi a C**T. So before he makes breaking “news” out if it. Ill just say it. Ha-Ha,” and she’s also posted a private text message conversation between her and friend that revealed she was crying herself to sleep. Liam meanwhile, has tweeted 47 times in his entire life.
3. Their Careers Are Headed In Different Directions
They once starred together in The Last Song, but now Liam — with roles in big movies like Paranoia and Catching Fire – seems more interested in becoming a critically acclaimed actor. Miley for now appears to be done with acting, and more focused on cornering the culturally urban pop star market.
4. They Don’t Always Support Each Other
Miley did attend the premiere for Paranoia on Aug. 8, but there was so much tension between the two that it hardly qualified as a good moment for them. Then Liam decided to ditch arguably the biggest performance of Miley’s career at the 2013 VMAs. Not cool. Though to be fair, he skipped the awards show because he knew Miley’s racy act would make him uncomfortable.
5. Liam Isn’t Putting In Full Effort
Not only does Liam have trouble showing his love for Miley, as a source told HollywoodLife.com exclusively, but he also doesn’t even care to try. “It’s Miley that’s been putting in the most effort to keep them together,” another source told HollywoodLife.com. When both parties aren’t giving 100%, that’s a pretty bad sign.
6. Also, Miley Reportedly Might Have Cheated
This could be the biggest problem of them all — the one that is the most difficult to overcome. While at Rob Dyrdek’s party on Aug. 23, Miley was reportedly spotted making out with another guy, according to InTouch magazine! Now that both of them have been the subjects of cheating rumors (remember Liam and January Jones in February?), things do not look good.
