The designer, who dressed the fashionable First Lady for the official swearing-in ceremony, told us what makes Michelle’s style so special. WATCH our interview with him below!
Michelle Obama looked neat and chic at the official swearing-in ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 20 in the Blue Room of the White House during the 57th Presidential Inauguration, where the First Lady opted for a custom-made blue Reed Krakoff shift dress and cardigan — and this wasn’t the first time Michelle wore one of Reed’s designs! “I’m a big fan of her style,” the designer exclusively told HollywoodLife.com.
Reed Krakoff Gushes About Michelle Obama:
Reed gushed about the fashionable First Lady at the 9th Annual Style Awards during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC on Sept. 5, where he was on hand to accept his ‘Accessory Designer of the Year’ award. “She always looks comfortable in what she wears,” he said. “She always looks appropriate, which is tough to do.”
We couldn’t agree with him more! Whether she’s donning a high-fashion frock, re-wearing one of her great looks or showing off her affinity for affordable fashion, Michelle always looks perfectly put together in every instance — and she does so with such effortless ease and grace!
Michelle Obama’s Reed Krakoff Ensemble For The Swearing-In Ceremony:
The First Lady looked perfectly polished as she stood by her husband’s side, holding the Robinson Family Bible, during the swearing-in ceremony. Sasha and Malia clearly take after their mother! Both girls looked lovely, looking on in blue and purple dresses while their father was sworn-in by Chief Justice John Roberts.
The designer worked on Michelle’s look for the swearing-in ceremony for over three months in his NYC studio. “It really is a highlight of my career. What we are most proud of is that she would choose to wear something we created for her in New York, and to have that kind of back and forth. What was amazing about the process was that you learn so much about yourself as a designer and your team. More than anything what this gives us is a sense of purpose that what we're doing is on the right track. It will long outlive the moment but at the same time we are incredibly honored. The First Lady is a strong confident modern woman. She knows what she likes and what works for her and that's what makes a style icon. She very much embraces fashion but in a way that works for her,” he told WWD.
Michelle is no stranger to Reed’s designs. In fact, back in 2011 she selected one of his looks when she attended the Pritzker Acrhitecture Prize ceremony.
