Kelly moved the crowd as she performed ‘My Country, ‘Tis of Thee’ at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration on Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C.
Kelly Clarkson gave a powerful performance as she sang ”My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” at President Barack Obama‘s second inauguration on Jan. 21. Kelly was joined by the United States Marine Band for her performance, as she was watched by a vast audience who were all there to support President Obama as he begins his second term as the President of the United States.
Kelly Clarkson Sings For President Obama
The original American Idol winner took to the stage immediately after President Obama finished his inaugural address, and she belted out big notes while Barack and Michelle Obama smiled throughout her performance. She even got a kiss from the President afterwards!
Kelly's was one of three important performances at the inauguration, as Beyonce wowed the audience with her performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” while James Taylor sang "America the Beautiful."
President Obama’s Inaugural Speech
The President’s speech was extremely inspiring, as he spoke about democracy and truth:
“Each time we gather to inaugurate a president, we bear witness to the enduring strength of our Constitution,” said President Obama. “We affirm the promise of our democracy. We recall that what binds this nation together is not the colors of our skin or the tenets of our faith or the origins of our names. What makes us exceptional – what makes us American – is our allegiance to an idea, articulated in a declaration made more than two centuries ago.”
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."
