Stefan’s getting over Elena by getting under someone else, and I think everyone is better off for it.

When Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) first broke up on the Nov. 15 episode of The Vampire Diaries,  we all figured they’d get back together eventually. But after Stefan’s actions on last night’s episode, it’s clear he’s finally moving on — or at least attempting to move on — and I couldn’t be happier for him.

I’m referring, of course, to Stefan getting down and dirty with Rebekah (Claire Holt) in the final moments of the Jan. 24 episode after promising, “no feelings, no attachments.” Basically, it was incredibly romantic.

So why am I coming out in support of “Stebekah?” Is it just because I’m a dirty “Delena” shipper who’s glad to have an obstacle removed from their path to happiness? Believe it or not, no! I actually have two solid reasons for loving what went down last night:

1. The Stefen-Elena-Damon Love Triangle Is Getting Old

Based on the comments I’ve seen in my recaps, it’s obvious the fans are growing tired of the same back-and-forth between Elena and the Salvatores, myself included. It’s nice to see that, for once, a Salvatore can find enjoyment in someone else’s bed other than Elena. Even when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) was with Andie — R.I.P., my sweet namesake — there was zero chemistry. At least Stefan and Rebekah have a history of “crazy sex!”

I don’t like to compare The Vampire Diaries to Twilight — because, let’s face it, Twilight sucks — but even that franchise knew when it was time to put the love triangle to bed. Jacob may have remained a Bitter Betty after Bella chose Edward over him, but at least he stopped actively trying to get between them. It was awkward and uncomfortable for everyone involved, but it worked.

Of course, I’m not a total idiot. I know full well the triangle isn’t dead, and that Elena will undoubtedly go back and forth several more times before the series comes to an end. But for now, it’s nice to see Elena exploring a relationship with one brother without having to deal with constant interruptions from the other.

2. Stefan Deserves To Get Some, Too

Let’s also not forget that Stefan is a red-blooded — if not warm-blooded — American who deserves to get laid every once in a while. And who better to get back in the saddle with than the girl he was porking back in the ’20s?

Plus, Elena literally told him she’s not in love with him anymore. Like, straight-up, to his face. What kind of man would he be if he kept pining for a girl who’s not into him?

Answer: A very sad one.
