Emotions will be high on Super Bowl Sunday far before the game even begins, when Jennifer Hudson joins the courageous children of the Sandy Hook Elementary School choir to perform a heart-wrenching rendition of ‘America the Beautiful.’

All eyes will be on the 50 yard-line of the Superdome in New Orleans as 26 astonishingly brave children from Sandy Hook Elementary School take the field with singer Jennifer Hudson. It promises to be a performance that makes the entire nation tear up.

CBS will broadcast the performance as a part of their Super Bowl pre-game festivities, according to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.

The Sandy Hook Performance Will Inspire Millions

The tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook — where 20 children and six teachers were gunned down — will no doubt be in our minds throughout, but the rendition will also inspire pride and unmatched strength in the millions who watch.

This won’t be the first time the Sandy Hook chorus matches up with a professional musician. Since the shooting, the surviving children have recorded “Over the Rainbow” to raise funds for the United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Youth Academy charities. The children have also spent time in recording studios with Ingrid Michaelson and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads.

Jennifer Hudson: A Perfect Match

The former American Idol star is an appropriate choice to sing along with the kids of Newtown, Conn. — she has faced her fair share of personal tragedy. In 2008, Jennifer’s mother, brother, and seven year-old nephew were devastatingly murdered by her ex-brother-in-law, William Balfour. Hudson has since stated that she forgives Balfour, but will never forgive the horrible acts he committed.

She, no doubt, will be able to impart the wisdom she has gained in the years since her family’s murders to these already extremely brave children.

So let us know, HollywoodLifers — will you be tuning in to the performance?
