Set to star as Daisy in Baz Luhrmann's remake of The Great Gatsby, the beautiful actress outshines other Hollywood stars on the May 2013 cover of Vogue! Do YOU like her on the cover?
Baz Luhrmann made sure to audition nearly every A-list actress in Hollywood, but Carey Mulligan, 27, was the only one to make the cut. While at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York the actress stood alongside Karl Lagerfeld announcing winners. It was at this very moment that Baz revealed to Carey that she got the part!
Carey Mulligan Takes The Cake
"Because of Leonardo, Daisy became a hugely desired role," said the director, who allegedly saw Scarlett Johansson, Michelle Williams, Blake Lively, Keira Knightly, and Natalie Portman.
Mulligan's audition happened pretty late in the day, which may have worked out in her favor!
"We did the piece just before the dinning-room scene where Daisy and Gatsby kiss. 'Am I supposed to kiss him?' she asked me. 'Yes, go for it.' She leaned over and she kisses Leonardo," Baz said to Vogue.
Leonardo DiCaprio Supported Carey Mulligan
When Baz asked Leonardo Dicaprio, 38, for his opinion of Carey's stunning audition, he replied, "Well… I guess that's the Next Big Thing in acting."
"We've seen a lot of great actors, but Daisy has got to be a kind of hothouse flower, something that Gatsby never encountered before, such that he feels an obsession to pretect her," Leonardo told Vogue.
How exciting! We are sure that Carey will embody Daisy's character, but we would like to know what YOU think HollywoodLifers, do YOU like her on the cover of Vogue?
