The young siblings, who were reported missing from their Long Island home, were found dead after drowning in their neighbor’s swimming pool. Read on for more tragic details.
Sharon Knowles, 7, and her younger brother Ralph Knowles, 5, were reported missing from their Long Island home on April 14 at 3:30 in the afternoon, only to be found dead in the murky water of their neighbor’s 50-degree pool.
Sharon & Ralph Knowles Found Dead
Police received a call that the siblings had gone missing on April 14 from their home in Central Islip, Long Island. When authorities searched the neighborhood for the missing children, an officer saw a shoe floating in the Knowles’ next-door neighbor’s house, Detective Sgt. Edward Fandrey of the Suffolk County police said, according to the Daily Mail.
The pool was then uncovered and revealed some blackish, murky water, according to Detective Fandrey, and officiers immediately jumped in the 4-foot-deep pool, and found Ralph and Sharon unconscious in the pool.
The siblings were taken to Southside Hospital, where they were tried to be resuscitated — but tragically, ended up dying.
Siblings Drowned In Neighbor’s Pool — What Happened?
Police believe the two young kids climbed over the fence and into the pool, and the neighbors had already been cited by the town for improper fencing for their above-ground pool.
“The exposed side of the stockade fence was facing out, instead of the smooth side,” Detective Fandry said, and added that it made it easier for people to climb over it.
The children’s uncle, Henry Valentine, said the kids’ mom Tia Knowles is devastated after the tragedy.
“She’s not doing good at all,” Henry said.
Such a tragedy. Our thoughts are with the Knowles family during this difficult time.
