There are only five guys left on ‘The Bachelorette,’ and the heat was really turned up in Portugal! Desiree went on three one on one dates, entertained some surprise guests, while Drew shockingly took the lead for Desiree’s heart. What a night!
The July 8 episode of The Bachelorette had tears, tantrums and surprise visitors — none of which Desiree Hartsock was prepared for! The episode begins with Des getting a visit from some very familiar faces, before she goes on four very interesting dates, and sadly one guy had to be eliminated before hometown dates…
Desiree’s Surprise Visitors
After some pensive staring from the balcony in her Portuguese suite, Desiree decides she needs some advice from her gal pals!
HollywoodLife.com previously reported that Desiree would be getting some surprise guests, and we were right! Her former Bachelor love rivals Lesley Murphy, Jackie Parr and Catherine Giudici showed up for drinks by the pool, and all I can think is that I wish I was there with him. The girls spy on the boys with binoculars, and Catherine drops the tone of the conversation when she asks who has the biggest d**k. She has clearly been dating born-again virgin Sean Lowe for too long.
Clouds & Fireworks With Brooks
The other boys adorably wave Brooks off for his one on one date with Des, and he and Des go to stand on the edge of a cliff. Is this going to be a more exciting elimination than a rose ceremony? They go up the mountains for a picnic in the clouds, and Brooks talks about solving puzzles.
They make out in breaking clouds, and Des uses it as a metaphor to describe their romance, while the Disney music comes on as they yell “We’re on top now!”
Des and Brooks go for a romantic dinner in an old courtyard looking out over the lights of the city, and fireworks both physically and metaphorically explode.
Poetry & Picnics With Chris
Chris smells the envelope when he gets his date card. Enough said. Anyway my personal favorite/Des’ future husband Chris and Des walk along the harbor while the other guys stare and look pissed. This is too funny.
Des and Brooks go sailing on a huge yacht, and after some very orchestrated sun lotioning, Des and Chris walk up a hill on an island for a picnic. There is champagne and crashing waves, and I have to say I think this date is pretty cool.
Once again Chris whips out some of this awesome (not) poetry. They write a seriously bad poem together and do a message in a bottle. They throw it into the sea, and I’m pretty sure it is going to end up smashed against all those rocks.
At dinner, they talk about how many kids they are going to have, and it is clear that this competition is a two horse race between Chris and Brooks. Chris spends the whole evening trying to tell Desiree he loves her, and his squirming is pretty cute.
Chris reads yet another poem to Desiree, and when he drops the L bomb in the last line, Des is weak at the knees. What. A. Genius. She weeps and things get even more romantic when Chris guides her over the cobble stones, and you know he is getting a make out session after that.
Sledding & Singing With Michael
Des wears the ugliest dress ever seen for her super awkward date with Michael. I’m pretty sure she is only making out with him so she doesn’t have to talk to him. They take a toboggan down a hill, and Michael says “love is a wild ride.” So profound. Not.
Des and Michael have dinner in the middle of the street, where he drones on about his family and stuff… This date is a serious snoozefest. They watch some woman opera sing next, and Des looks positively bored to tears, so of course she reverts to making out. Oh Des!
Race Car Driving & Art With Zak & Drew
Des takes Drew and Zak to the go-karting track, and she makes them race against each other. It’s just like The Fast & The Furious, expect its super lame. Zak wins and Drew takes it like a man. Des brings the boys for a picnic in the middle of the track — how not romantic — and Drew is desperate to get the only rose of the night.
Zak entertains Des with lots of pictures that he had drawn of his journey on the show so far, and it’s actually pretty sweet, even if he is no Vincent Van Gogh. However, when Zak talks about bringing Des back to his hometown, it sounds like he wants to abduct her. Drew makes out with both guys on the date, and she has had a clean sweep kissing wise this episode!
Drew tells Des he has “fallen for” her, MID KISSING! That is just gross. Drew sashays back to the picnic full of confidence, because after his sob story about his sister, he gets the only rose!
Elimination At The Rose Ceremony
Des wears a super sexy blue dress for the final rose ceremony, and she doesn’t go into it without a pep talk from the wisest man in the world, Chris Harrison.
Michael and his diabetes were eliminated, and boy did he take it hard. Michael does not know why girls keep dumping him, but I do. #diabetesmoaning
I can’t wait for hometown dates now!
