The Duchess of Cambridge is due to give birth any day now! But before the royals make their official announcement that Kate has gone into labor, there’s another way we will know the royal baby is on the way.

The official royal baby watch is underway for Kate Middleton and Prince William at St. Mary’s hospital, where photographers and journalists are already lined up to document the historic event. But before Kate’s labor is officially announced, there’s another, more subtle way we’ll know the Duchess is on her way to the hospital!

Kate Middleton Going Into Labor: How We’ll Know Royal Baby Is On The Way

Kate will be welcoming her first child in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s hospital, and press and hospital staff are already on high alert. As soon as the mom-to-be checks into St. Mary’s, a press release will be sent on behalf of the royal family to alert the world that the royal baby is officially on the way.

But before that happens, an armed police officer will appear on the steps outside the hospital, preparing for Kate’s arrival, according to the Daily Mail. It will be the first official sign that the royal baby is on the way!

She will then be taken into the Lindo wing through one of the three side entrances by the armed officer.

While Kate leaves for the hospital, her obstetrician, Marcus Setchell, will also be alerted of the impending birth on a specially-encrypted cell phone. He lives only six-and-a-half-miles away from the hospital, and is expected to make it in less than 20 minutes.

Royal Baby’s Birth ‘Is A Time Of National Celebration’

Unlike Kim Kardashian‘s birth, which was kept as secret as possible, Kate and William’s labor and birth announcement will be a time of national celebration.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge realize there will be vast interest in the baby," a palace spokesman told Us Weekly. "This is a time of national celebration."

All eyes will be on the hospital until then!

What do YOU think of an armed guard being the first sign of the baby’s arrival, HollyMoms?
