So sad. Teresa Heinz Kerry, the wife of Secretary of State John Kerry, was rushed to a hospital in Boston on July 7 due to an unspecified medical condition.

Teresa Heinz Kerry was taken by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital accompanied by husband John Kerry on July 7. The Secretary of State’s wife is said to have arrived in critical condition after being stricken with an unspecified medical condition while vacationing on the island of Nantucket.

While Teresa, the 74-year-old widow of former Sen. John Heinz, was admitted to Nantucket Cottage Hospital in critical condition, she’s since been stabilized and has been sent to a Boston hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital.

“Late Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Teresa Heinz Kerry was taken by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, accompanied by her husband, Secretary of State John Kerry. Once doctors had stabilized her condition, she was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, again accompanied by the Secretary. The family is grateful for the outpouring of support it has received and aware of the interest in her condition, but they ask for privacy at this time,” Kerry spokesman Glen Johnson said in a statement, according to USA TODAY.

Teresa Heinz Kerry’s Medical History — Treated For Breast Cancer In 2009

In 2009, Teresa, who was thrust into the spotlight when her husband ran for the Democratic nomination in the 2004 presidential campaign, was treated for breast cancer. The disease was detected in her left breast after she had her annual mammogram. She underwent lumpectomies in both breasts after a growth was also detected in her right breast.

John, 69, has been at the couple’s Nantucket home since he returned from the Mideast and Southeast Asia on July 3. Before his wife’s hospitalization, John had been scheduled to return to Washington on July 8.

Our thoughts are with Teresa’s family and friends at this difficult time. We Hope Teresa has a speedy recovery.
