This summer, we’ve seen our fair share of A-listers ditching their designer dresses for short suits — and with good reason! The refreshing new trend is such a great alternative to rocking a dress on the red carpet — and it’s comfortable, too!

Trend alert! Whether it’s on the runway, red carpet, or in real life, one thing is for sure: short suits are in! The two-piece numbers have been featured on the Spring 2013 runways of Alexander McQueen, Rebecca Minkoff, and Tory Burch, to name a few — and the trend has certainly caught on like crazy, with so many stylish stars embracing the new look. Even Carrie Underwood, 30, ditched her usual dress at the 2013 CMA’s and rocked a beautiful teal ensemble. Shay Mitchell, 26, also rocked a Naven number while attending a Pretty Little Liars event on June 11.
Why Short Suits?
As we all know, 2013 has been all about bringing back retro looks. We’ve see the high-waisted demin, crop tops. and palazzo pants all make a comeback. However, it’s possible that short suits might be our favorite. Why? They’re the perfect combination of classic and sexy. There are so many different styles and options when wearing this fashionable find.
In bold colors, pretty prints and fabrics the style offers up a slew of versatile options. The silhouette of the shorts also varies, too! Whether you rock a high-waisted pair or a fuller pair that is looser on the leg, simply find the style you feel most comfortable in, throw on a pair of pumps and go! Depending on the hue of your suit, you can even rock it with tights when the weather gets a little cooler.
Dress up a short suit for the perfect office attire or dress it down for a night out with the girls. The suits are perfect for warm weather but heavy enough to be worn on a chilly night. How you play with the pieces is really up to you … which makes them so much fun!
If the pattern on pattern look is too matchy-matchy for you, throw in a bit of contrast with different color blazers and shorts. This will not only add some personality, but it will also expand the amount of different looks you can make with each suit.
With bold accessories, pumps, or a pair of sandals you’ll be ready to go. You can even lose the jacket and slip on flats if you want to dress down the get-up. If you’re heading to a dinner date, party, or even a bridal shower the look is a great alternative to a dress.
