Not even Harry’s apparent dislike for Austin is enough to make him stop loving One Direction! The VMA Artist To Watch clearly doesn’t have a mean bone in his body — but do you think he should’ve fired back at Harry?
There are a lot of huge Directioners out there, but Austin Mahone might be One Direction’s biggest fan. After Harry Styles (rudely) tweeted that he wished Austin’s Artist To Watch award at the VMAs had gone to someone else, we were expecting a pop star throwdown. Not quite!
Harry Styles Bashes Austin Mahone — The Artist To Watch Responds
At just 17 years old, Austin prevailed against Twenty One Pilots, Zedd, The Weekend, and Iggy Azalea for the Artist to Watch award at the VMAs on Aug. 25. The night after, Harry took to Twitter to complain, “@IGGYAZALEA should’ve won last night..” Harry clearly thought the Australian rapper and hip-hop artist deserved a night in the spotlight, and sort of threw shade on Austin in the process.
But apparently that wasn’t enough to fire up some celeb beef. Just a few nights later, Austin found Harry’s tweet in support of Iggy and tweeted, “Wow just found out what @Harry_Syles said!! #imstilladirectioner.”
On one hand, it’s nice to see a star take some criticism and not feel the need to fire back. But on the other hand — you gotta stand up for yourself, Austin! At such a young age, we hope other stars don’t interpret Austin’s innocence and kindness as weakness.

But Austin might have just been happy to be at the VMAs, where he had the night of his life. Not only did he take home his award, he was also seen cozying up to Selena Gomez.
The night of the VMAs, Austin posted a picture of himself with Selena and wrote: “Good to see you the other night! @SelenaGomez.” Though he insists that they are just friends, we can’t help think they look pretty cute together!
